How Hemp is Revolutionizing Fashion
Our Hemp Story-
The Of The Earth hemp story began in 1992, dedicated to the concept that fine organic and alternative fiber apparel was the wave of the future. Since 1992, Of The Earth’s Founders and Designers Hélène Bisnaire and Richard Ziff have followed their calling by integrating their love for fashion and the earth. From a personal dream of bringing organic sustainable products to the world’s market, we believe we can make a difference and so can you. Since 1992 we have strived to be the premier resource for fashionable alternative and organic apparel. Sustainability to Of the Earth simply stated is the Transparent Trade of consumer goods from Farm to Fashion, which allows all that participate in the production of these goods to benefit from this transaction, the earth, the water, the air, the farmer, the ginner, the spinner, the weaver, the knitter, the finisher, the sewer, the trucker, the shipper, the broker, the certifier, the buyer, the store, the web, the employees, the consumers, the bankers and investors who believe in the mission of this Company. This mission, which 25 years ago was said to be unattainable, defied all odds, overcame all hurdles, and we at Of the Earth have become a leader in the transition of conventional production to natural, sustainable and organic production. We continue to strive for more sustainability in all aspects of business creating a Conscious Corporation, giving a future to people who could not dream of one.
History of Hemp-
Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 10,000 years ago. Hemp is used to make a variety of commercial and industrial products including rope, clothes, food, paper, textiles, plastics, insulation and biofuel. The oldest cultivated fiber plant known, hemp has a history of use in textiles and fabrics dating back as far as 8000 B.C. The reasons for hemp’s continued popularity throughout the years are still applicable today and are the basis for the renewed interest in cultivation and use.
